Discover the Wild Atlantic Way

Taking in West Cork, the Ring of Kerry, Clare and Galway the Wild Atlantic Way offers a magical route along the west coast of Ireland. If you are looking to experience beautiful beaches, amazing scenery, friendly “locals” (think sheep, cows and dogs), great food and have the best time ever, then you must take a trip to the West.

Staycation 2020 Fern & Fia do the Wild Atlantic Way

The places we visited:

Co. Cork: Gougane Barra Church and Park, Baltimore (the Beacon is a must see), Ballydehob, Schull, Barleycove Beach (jump over the waves), Mizen Head (most southerly point in Ireland), Blairs Cove, Bantry (not a trip unless you explore Bantry House), Ballylickey, Glengarriff (check out the Bamboo Park), Castletown-Bearhaven, Dzogchen Beara Buddhist Retreat, Dursey Island (be brave and take a ride on the cablecar) , Allihies, Eyeries, the Healy Pass (unbelievable scenery – even with grey clouds).

Co. Kerry: Kenmare, Parknasilla, Sneem, Castlecove (the cutest little beach), Caherdaniel, Derrynane Beach (Amazing!), Waterville, Ballinskelligs, the Skellig Chocolate Factory (well worth a visit- think free chocolate tasting), Portmagee, Valentia Island (view of the Skellig Islands and so much more to discover), Cahersiveen, Kells Bay (dive off the pier), Rossbeigh Beach, Glenbeigh and of course, Killarney.

Co. Clare: Ennis, Spanish Point, Lahinch (or Lehinch- whatever you prefer), Corofin (head up to Inchiquin Lake), the Burren National Park, Father Ted’s House. (Yes, the one off the TV) “Ah go on go on go on…. visit it”

Co. Galway: Galway City (go to Dough Bros for Pizza), Salthill, Barna, Spiddal (chat “As Gaeilge”), Carraroe, Coral Beach (Think coral instead of sand! Pure perfection), Cliften, Letterfrack, Connemara National Park (you would need days to hike it), Kylemore Abbey & Victorian Walled Garden. (The nuns make and sell the most delicious chocolate, also in the shape of sheep)

Hope you enjoy the trip! Make sure to really take in every single second and make it worthwhile…
